Prostate Tissue Resection

Prostate tissue resection is a surgical procedure that removes diseased or obstructing tissue from the prostate to improve urinary function or manage prostate disease. In procedures such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), a surgeon guides an instrument through the urethra and cuts or vaporizes excess tissue, creating a wider channel for urine flow. Removed tissue can undergo histopathological examination to distinguish benign enlargement from malignancy. The procedure can relieve lower urinary tract symptoms and provide diagnostic information, while risks and outcomes depend on the surgical technique, prostate anatomy, and the patient’s overall health.

Here we describe a simplified protocol for microRNA (miRNA) expression analyses in archived Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) or fresh frozen prostate cancer (PCa) clinical tissues employing quantitative real-time PCR (RT-PCR) and in situ hybridization (ISH).

Individual Lobe Extraction from Prostate: A Technique to Harvest Individual Prostate Lobes from Mouse Prostate

This video describes a technique to harvest individual lobes from the prostate gland of a mouse model. Individual lobes can then be used for histological analysis and cancer research.

Sampling Prostate Cancer Tissue for Biobanking: An MRI-guided Targeted Technique to Remove Biopsy Punches from Fresh Tumor Tissue

We describe the manufacture of compressed hormone pellets, as well as subcutaneous surgical implantation into mice. This strategy can be combined with the growth of cell and tissue xenografts under the renal capsule of athymic nude mice to evaluate hormonal carcinogenesis and regulation of benign prostate growth.
