Femoral Nerve Repair

Femoral nerve repair is a surgical treatment that restores continuity or function after injury to the femoral nerve, which supplies sensation to the thigh and motor control to muscles that extend the knee. Depending on the extent and location of damage, surgeons may release compression, reconnect nerve ends through neurorrhaphy, or bridge a gap with a nerve graft or conduit, allowing regenerating axons to reach their targets. Repair aims to improve quadriceps strength, knee stability, and sensation while limiting muscle wasting and disability. In medicine, understanding injury assessment, microsurgical technique, and postoperative rehabilitation supports recovery after trauma, surgery, or other causes of femoral neuropathy.

Nerve Repair Using a Bionic Conductive Scaffold Combined with Electrical Stimulation

Take an anesthetized rat with an exposed intact right sciatic nerve, which controls leg movement and sensation.Excise a nerve segment, creating a gap, severing the neuronal axons, and disrupting signal transmission. The severed distal axons deteriorate, detaching specialized nerve-repair or Schwann cells.Suture a bionic conductive nerve scaffold, a soft tube with microchannels, to the epineurium, the nerve’s outer layer, at both cut ends.Implant paired electrodes near the nerve ends, passing...

Central Venous Catheter Insertion: Femoral Vein

2023

Source: James W Bonz, MD, Emergency Medicine, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, USA Central venous access is necessary in a multitude of clinical situations, including vascular access, vasopressor and caustic medication delivery, central venous pressure monitoring, volume resuscitation, total parental nutrition, hemodialysis, and frequent phlebotomy. There are three veins in the body that are accessed for central venous cannulation: the internal jugular, the subclavian, and the...

This protocol describes a procedure for serial sampling of femoral bone marrow (BM) without requiring the sacrifice of mice. This procedure facilitates longitudinal studies of the BM composition of mice over time and provides serial access to cells within the BM for ex vivo and transplantation studies.
