Prosthetic Eye Fitting

Prosthetic eye fitting is the clinical process of designing and placing an ocular prosthesis to restore the appearance of an eye after eye loss or severe injury. A clinician evaluates the orbital socket, takes an impression when needed, and selects or fabricates a prosthesis that matches the fellow eye in size, shape, color, and position. Careful fitting supports eyelid movement, comfort, tear distribution, and natural-appearing alignment while reducing irritation or instability. The procedure combines medical assessment with ocular-surface and facial-anatomy principles, helping patients achieve improved cosmetic symmetry, confidence, and quality of life during rehabilitation.

Quantitative Fitness Analysis (QFA) is a complementary series of experimental and computational methods for estimating microbial culture fitnesses. QFA estimates the effect of genetic mutations, drugs or other applied treatments on microbe growth. Experiments scaling from focussed analysis of single cultures to thousands of parallel cultures can be designed.

Inclusive Fitness

2025

Most altruistic behavior—in which one animal helps another at a cost to themselves—occurs between relatives. Scientists think these altruistic behaviors evolved because they increase the inclusive fitness of the animal providing help. Inclusive fitness is an individual’s ability to pass down their genes—both through their offspring and the offspring of close relatives with shared genes. If an animal helps a close relative improve their reproductive success, this increases the animal’s...
