Residual Filling Material

Residual filling material is the portion of a restorative or endodontic filling that remains in a treated site after placement, shaping, revision, or removal, making it important for evaluating treatment quality and possible complications. In root canal therapy, remnants such as gutta-percha or sealer may persist within canal irregularities, undercuts, or accessory canals because instruments cannot contact every surface. Clinicians identify and assess this material using clinical examination and imaging, particularly during retreatment or when symptoms continue. Understanding its location and condition supports decisions about removal, preservation, infection control, and the long-term prognosis of the treated tooth.

Residue-Free Fabrication of van der Waals Heterostructures of Two-Dimensional Materials

2025

This study presents a residue-free fabrication methodology for producing single flakes of two-dimensional materials and assembling them into complex heterostructures using only van der Waals interactions. The technique eliminates the need for external substances and specific experimental conditions, enabling complex heterostructure assemblies through bottom-up, top-down, and modular stacking processes.

Roughness Impact of Piezoelectric Dental Scaler on Two Distinct Flowable Composite Filling Materials

2025

This methodology allows applying a dental appliance on any specimen at any angle with standardized force and stability. This approach might be extensively used in health sciences to standardize the impacts of dental equipment with hand-holding elements such as micromotors, turbines, and ultrasonic scalers on varied surfaces.

Residual Stresses

2024

Residual stresses reside in a structure even after removing the original stress inducer. This phenomenon often arises from varied plastic deformations across different parts of a structure. Consider a rod stretched beyond its yield point. It will not regain its original length due to permanent deformation. Even after load removal, the rod does not entirely lose stress because of uneven plastic deformations, resulting in residual stresses. The computation of these stresses in structures is...

Residual Plots

A residual plot is a statistical representation of data used to analyze correlation and regression results. It helps verify the requirements for drawing specific conclusions about correlation and regression. To obtain the residual plot, first, the residual for each data value is calculated, which is simply the vertical distance between the observed and the predicted value obtained from the regression equation. When the residual values are plotted against the variable x, it is called a residual...

Finding Your Blind Spot and Perceptual Filling-in

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In the back of everyone's eye is a small piece of neural tissue called the retina. The retina has photosensitive cells that respond to stimulation by light. The responses of these cells are sent into the brain through the optic nerve, a bundle of neural fibers. In each retina there is a place somewhere in the periphery where the outputs from retinal cells collect and the bundled optic nerve exits to the brain. At that location,...
