Sentence Recognition

Sentence recognition is the cognitive process of identifying and understanding a spoken or written sentence by integrating its words, grammar, and meaning. In auditory settings, the brain analyzes sound patterns, maps them to linguistic units, and uses syntactic and contextual cues to resolve incomplete or noisy speech. In medicine, sentence recognition supports speech and language assessment, hearing evaluations, and the study of communication disorders by revealing how well a person understands connected language rather than isolated words. It also informs clinical approaches for patients with hearing loss, aphasia, or other conditions that affect language processing and everyday communication.
