Beta Tubulin Staining

Beta tubulin staining is an immunolabeling technique used to visualize beta tubulin, a structural protein that forms microtubules within cells, including neurons. The method typically fixes and permeabilizes tissue or cultured cells, then uses a primary antibody to bind beta tubulin and a labeled secondary antibody to produce fluorescence or another detectable signal. In neuroscience, staining reveals microtubule organization in neuronal cell bodies, axons, and dendrites, supporting analysis of neurite extension, cellular architecture, and cytoskeletal changes. It is also useful for assessing neuronal development, injury-related remodeling, and alterations associated with neurodegenerative disease or experimental treatments.

Source: Maiti, P. et. al.,. Labeling and Imaging of Amyloid Plaques in Brain Tissue Using the Natural Polyphenol Curcumin. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the imaging procedure of amyloid-beta plaques in brain tissue sections using immunolabeling and curcumin staining. Immunolabeling provides specificity for amyloid-beta, while curcumin selectively binds β-sheet-rich fibrils, enhancing visualization. The co-localization of red and green fluorescence confirms the presence of plaques.

Beta

2024

Beta is a crucial metric in finance used to assess an investment's risk and expected return relative to the overall market. It is calculated as the slope of the line in a scatterplot that compares the returns of an individual stock to the returns of the market benchmark, typically represented by a broad market index. Beta quantifies how much a stock's price moves in response to market movements, providing insight into its volatility and systematic risk. A beta of one indicates that the stock's...

Cell-mediated lymphocytotoxicity (CML) assays can be used to test autoreactive responses and study mechanisms of cell death in vitro. However, using live-cell confocal microscopic imaging techniques with fluorescent dyes, the type and kinetics of cell death as well as the pathways utilized can be studied in greater detail.
