Biotin-dextran Tracer

Biotin-dextran tracer is a carbohydrate-based neuronal labeling tool used to map connections within the nervous system. After injection into a selected brain region, dextran-conjugated biotin is transported along axons in anterograde or retrograde directions, allowing researchers to identify projection patterns and circuit architecture. Tissue processing with avidin- or streptavidin-linked enzymes or fluorophores reveals labeled neurons and fibers through microscopy. In neuroscience, this method supports the study of neural pathways, synaptic organization, and brain connectivity, providing anatomical context for investigations of sensory processing, motor control, development, and neurological disease.
