Bone Screw Fixation

Bone screw fixation is a surgical technique that stabilizes bone by anchoring screws across a fracture, joint, or reconstructed region, helping maintain alignment during healing. Screws generate compression or hold implanted plates, rods, or grafts against bone, while their threads engage the surrounding tissue to resist movement and mechanical loading. In neuroscience, this approach supports cranial reconstruction and spinal procedures that protect neural structures, restore stability, or correct deformity. Proper selection of screw size, trajectory, and placement is essential because fixation must provide reliable mechanical support while minimizing injury to the brain, spinal cord, nerve roots, and nearby blood vessels.

Self-Locking Screw

A square-threaded screw jack is a mechanical device widely used for lifting heavy loads or applying considerable force. One of the key features that can make a screw jack more effective and reliable is its self-locking capability. A square-threaded screw jack carrying a load is considered self-locking if the screw retains its position even after the moment applied to it is removed. This occurs when the frictional force direction reverses, and the reaction force acts on the other side of the...
