Bregma Landmark

Bregma is a cranial landmark where the sagittal and coronal sutures meet, providing a consistent external reference for locating structures within the brain. In stereotaxic neuroscience, researchers identify this intersection on the dorsal skull and use it as a coordinate origin, measuring anterior-posterior, medial-lateral, and dorsal-ventral distances to guide procedures. Bregma-based coordinates support the placement of electrodes, cannulas, injection needles, and other tools during animal experiments, while brain atlases help relate these positions to underlying anatomy. Accurate identification is essential for reproducible targeting, interpretation of neural circuits, and comparison of results across studies.
