Probe Trial

A probe trial is an unreinforced test used to determine whether an animal has learned and retained a behavioral response, making it a key tool for studying memory in neuroscience. During the trial, the expected reward or target is removed, and researchers measure behaviors that reveal the subject’s memory for its location or associated cues; in the Morris water maze, this includes time spent in the target quadrant and crossings over the former platform site. Probe trials help distinguish genuine spatial learning from strategies based on immediate reinforcement and are widely used to evaluate memory formation, retention, and the effects of neural injury, drugs, or genetic manipulation.

The Trial Balance

2025

A trial balance is a fundamental financial statement that provides a snapshot of a company's accounts and their balances at a specific point in time. It serves as an essential tool for verifying the accuracy of financial records by ensuring that the total debits equal the total credits. Typically prepared at the end of an accounting period, a trial balance lists all ledger accounts in the order they appear, with debit balances in the left column and credit balances in the right column. The two...

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are prospective experimental studies conducted on humans to determine the safety and efficacy of treatments, drugs, diet methods, and medical devices. Using statistics in clinical trials enables researchers to derive reasonable and accurate conclusions from the collected data, allowing them to make wise decisions in uncertain situations. In medical research, statistical methods are crucial for preventing errors and bias. There are four phases in a clinical trial. A phase one...

Microdialysis is a commonly used technique in neuroscience research. Therefore commercial probes are in great demand. In this work a probe assembly is explained in detail to build a reliable, concentric, custom-made microdialysis probe for less than $10.

Trial and Error and Algorithm

A problem-solving strategy is a plan of action used to find a solution. Different strategies have distinct action plans. Trial and error involves trying different solutions until one works. For instance, to fix a broken printer, you might check ink levels, ensure the paper tray isn't jammed, and verify the printer's connection to your laptop. This method can be time-consuming but is commonly used. Thomas Edison, for example, used trial and error to find a suitable filament for the light bulb,...
