Cell Survival Quantification

Cell survival quantification is the measurement of how many cells remain viable after culture, treatment, injury, or other experimental conditions, providing a foundation for evaluating cellular health. In neuroscience, researchers assess survival by detecting metabolic activity, membrane integrity, or molecular markers associated with apoptosis and cell death, often comparing treated and control neuronal populations. These measurements can reveal neurotoxic effects, protective mechanisms, and responses to disease-related stress. Applications include studying neurodegeneration, evaluating potential therapeutics, optimizing neuronal culture conditions, and assessing recovery after injury, making reliable survival assays essential for interpreting changes in neural cell populations.

Freeze-drying is often an easy and convenient way to obtain dry products of viable bacterial cells. An issue of the process is cell survival. We detail here a procedure to investigate how cell survival during freeze-drying is influenced by the properties of the formulation used.

Cellular Impedance-Based Survival Kinetics Assay to Assess Virus Survival

The monitoring of extracellular neurotransmitter levels in distinct brain regions of freely moving animals offers insights on the link between neurotransmitter release and behavior. In vivo microdialysis coupled with electrochemical detection provides excellent anatomical and chemical resolution; and information on how basal neurotransmission is altered by pharmacological or physiological manipulations.

Survival Curves

2025

Survival curves are graphical representations that depict the survival experience of a population over time, offering an intuitive way to track the proportion of individuals who remain event-free at each time point. These curves are widely used in fields such as medicine, public health, and reliability engineering to visualize and compare survival probabilities across different groups or conditions. The Kaplan-Meier estimator is the most common method for constructing survival curves. This...

Survival Tree

2025

Survival trees are a non-parametric method used in survival analysis to model the relationship between a set of covariates and the time until an event of interest occurs, often referred to as the "time-to-event" or "survival time." This method is particularly useful when dealing with censored data, where the event has not occurred for some individuals by the end of the study period, or when the exact time of the event is unknown. Building a Survival Tree Constructing a survival tree begins...
