Dark Phase Testing

Dark phase testing is the assessment of nervous-system function and behavior during the dark portion of a controlled light–dark cycle, when many nocturnal laboratory animals show their highest activity. By standardizing illumination, testing time, and environmental conditions, researchers can measure how circadian timing influences locomotion, sensory responses, learning, anxiety-like behavior, and other neural outcomes while reducing variation caused by testing at different biological times. In neuroscience, this approach helps distinguish effects of disease, genetic changes, drugs, or experimental manipulations from normal daily rhythms, improving behavioral data interpretation and supporting more reproducible studies of sleep, circadian regulation, and brain function.

Dark Triad and Person Perception

Person perception is influenced by both external behaviors and the observer’s internal characteristics, including personality traits. Individuals with dark personality traits, comprising psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism — collectively known as the dark triad – exhibit manipulative and exploitative tendencies in social contexts. These traits affect how they perceive others and how they are perceived. The Role of Dark Personality Traits in Person PerceptionBlack et al. (2014) explored...

Phase Diagrams

A phase diagram combines plots of pressure versus temperature for the liquid-gas, solid-liquid, and solid-gas phase-transition equilibria of a substance. These diagrams indicate the physical states that exist under specific conditions of pressure and temperature and also provide the pressure dependence of the phase-transition temperatures (melting points, sublimation points, boiling points). Regions or areas labeled solid, liquid, and gas represent single phases, while lines or curves represent...
