Early Receptor Potential

Early receptor potential is a brief electrical response produced by photoreceptors immediately after light stimulates visual pigment, preceding the larger receptor potential that changes membrane voltage during phototransduction. It arises from rapid, light-driven conformational changes in rhodopsin that shift charged groups within the pigment and generate a capacitive current, rather than from the opening or closing of ion channels. Studying this signal helps distinguish the earliest molecular events in vision from later changes in membrane conductance, providing insight into rhodopsin function, photoreceptor physiology, and retinal disorders. In neuroscience, early receptor potential measurements support research on visual signaling and the effects of altered photopigment structure.

Topical Testing Assay: A Technique to Evaluate the Insecticidal Potential of Dopamine Receptor Antagonists on Adult Female Mosquitoes by Topical Application

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the topical testing assay to determine the toxicity of a potential insecticide on adult female mosquitoes. Using a dopamine receptor antagonist that causes lethal inhibition of neurotransmission in mosquitoes, this method describes a way to evaluate the toxic effects of insecticides upon topical application.

Repetitive Tumor Challenge Assay: An In Vitro Culture Assay to Evaluate Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T Cells for Repetitive Tumor Killing Potential

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Electric potential, also known as "voltage", measures the electric potential energy per unit charge. Electric field is a scalar quantity and is fundamental to many electrical effects. Like potential energy, what is physically meaningful is the difference in the electric potential. For example, the spatial variation in the electric potential is related to the electric...
