Electrode Positioning

Electrode positioning is the deliberate placement and orientation of electrodes to record neural signals or deliver electrical stimulation with intended spatial and physiological specificity. In neuroscience, electrode location determines which neurons or brain regions contribute to a measurement, while contact geometry, depth, reference selection, and the tissue interface influence signal quality, impedance, and current distribution. Researchers use anatomical landmarks, stereotaxic coordinates, imaging, or electrophysiological feedback to guide placement in surface, penetrating, or implanted preparations. Accurate positioning supports studies of neural circuits, brain function, and behavior while improving the reproducibility of recordings, stimulation experiments, and neuroprosthetic interfaces.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an established technique to modulate cortical excitability1,2. It has been used as an investigative tool in neuroscience due to its effects on cortical plasticity, easy operation, and safe profile. One area that tDCS has been showing encouraging results is pain alleviation 3-5.

On comparing the reactivity of silver and lead, it is observed that the two ionic species, Ag+ (aq) and Pb2+ (aq), show a difference in their redox reactivity towards copper: the silver ion undergoes spontaneous reduction, while the lead ion does not. This relative redox activity can be easily quantified in electrochemical cells by a property called cell potential. This property is commonly known as cell voltage in electrochemistry, and it is a measure of the energy which accompanies the charge...

This protocol describes how to generate carbon fiber electrodes. The electrodes are subsequently used to detect catecholamine release from vesicles with carbon fiber amperometry.

Positive Reinforcement Studies

Researchers study learning of a behavior through the use of operant conditioning. This type of learning involves associating the behavior with a consequence, which is a reward or punishment. If the consequence is a reward, it leads to reinforcement of the desired behavior. One type of reinforcement approach is positive reinforcement, where the behavior is rewarded with an artificial, natural, or social reinforcer. Studies using positive reinforcement as a tool can help tease out important...
