Gfp-transfected Neurons

GFP-transfected neurons are nerve cells engineered to express green fluorescent protein (GFP), providing a visible marker for studying neuronal structure and behavior in neuroscience. Transfection introduces DNA encoding GFP into neurons, where cellular machinery transcribes the gene and translates the protein; upon illumination with appropriate excitation light, GFP emits green fluorescence. Researchers use this signal to identify successfully transfected cells, visualize neurites and neuronal morphology, follow labeled populations in cultures or tissue, and assess how experimental treatments affect neuronal development and connectivity.

Neuronal Transfection Methods

2023

Transfection - the process of transferring genetic material into cells - is a powerful tool for the rapid and efficient manipulation of gene expression in cells. Because this method can be used to silence the expression of specific proteins or to drive the expression of foreign or modified proteins, transfection is an extremely useful tool in the study of the cellular and molecular processes that govern neuron function. However, mature neurons have a number of properties that make them...

A rapid approach to investigate interactions and effects on molecular mechanisms related to the presence of antibodies in an intracellular environment is described. The method involves transfection of antibodies into live cells using a non-covalent complex formation based on a lipid formulation. The technique is adaptable to immortalized cell lines and primary cells.

TALEN-mediated gene editing at the safe harbor AAVS1 locus enables high-efficiency transgene addition in human iPSCs. This protocol describes the procedures for preparing iPSCs for TALEN and donor vector delivery, transfecting iPSCs, and selecting and isolating iPSC clones to achieve targeted integration of a GFP gene to generate reporter lines.
