Iris Scissors

Iris scissors are small, sharp surgical instruments designed for precise cutting and tissue dissection in procedures that require fine control. Their short, narrow blades and compact finger rings allow researchers and clinicians to make controlled cuts through delicate tissues while limiting unnecessary disruption to nearby structures. In neuroscience, iris scissors support microsurgical dissection, preparation of brain and spinal cord tissue, and separation of membranes or connective tissue during experimental procedures. Proper handling helps preserve anatomical features, improve sample quality, and reduce mechanical damage that could affect histological analysis, electrophysiology, or other downstream investigations.

2011

In newt, the lens regenerates always from the dorsal iris by transdifferentiation of the iris pigmented epithelial cells (IPEs). Here we describe a procedure to culture dorsal and ventral newt IPE cells and their implantation to the newt eye. The implanted cells are then studied by tissue sectioning and immunohistochemistry.

Biomolecular Detection employing the Interferometric Reflectance Imaging Sensor (IRIS)

Quantitative, high-throughput, real-time, and label-free biomolecular detection (DNA, protein, etc.) on SiO2 surfaces can be achieved using a simple interferometric technique which relies on LED illumination, minimal optical components, and a camera. The Interferometric Reflectance Imaging Sensor (IRIS) is inexpensive, simple to use, and amenable to microarray formats.

Iris Fixation via External Pentagram Suturing

2022

The present protocol describes how a 10-0 polypropylene suture crosses the anterior surface of the iris, forming a pentagram to prevent both iris and pupil from moving toward the cornea. This can be combined with subsequent keratoplasty to cure bullous keratopathy with extensive anterior synechia of the iris.
