Massed Training

Massed training is a learning schedule in which practice trials are concentrated into a short period with little rest, making it an important model for studying how practice structure shapes neural plasticity and behavior. Repeated activation of task-related neural circuits can strengthen performance during the session, while limited recovery and consolidation between trials may influence retention and transfer compared with spaced training. In neuroscience, researchers use massed training to examine motor learning, memory formation, attention, and rehabilitation protocols after nervous-system injury. Comparing massed and distributed schedules helps identify when intensive practice improves immediate performance and when longer intervals support more durable learning.

Training and Competency in Animal Procedures

2026

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. A Stepwise Approach to Training Proper training and competency in animal procedures are essential to ensure high standards of animal welfare and reliable scientific outcomes. A structured, progressive training approach is...

Lipid droplets are important organelles for the replication of several pathogens, including the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). We describe a method to isolate lipid droplets for quantitative mass spectrometry of associated proteins; it can be used under a variety of conditions, such as virus infection, environmental stress, or drug treatment.

The identity of a substance is defined not only by the types of atoms or ions it contains but by the quantity of each type of atom or ion. For example, water, H2O, and hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, are alike in that their respective molecules are composed of hydrogen and oxygen atoms. However, because a hydrogen peroxide molecule contains two oxygen atoms, as opposed to the water molecule, which has only one, the two substances exhibit very different properties. Atoms and molecules are extremely...
