Neonatal Eeg

Neonatal EEG is a noninvasive method for recording the brain’s electrical activity in newborns, providing essential information about neurological function during a period of rapid development. Scalp electrodes detect voltage changes produced by synchronized neuronal activity, while clinicians interpret background patterns, sleep-wake organization, and transient abnormalities in relation to gestational and postnatal age. In neuroscience and neonatal care, EEG supports the detection and monitoring of seizures, assessment of brain maturation, and evaluation of infants at risk for hypoxic-ischemic injury or other neurological disorders. Its continuous, bedside measurements can guide diagnosis, treatment decisions, and research on early brain development.

This video demonstrates a method for measuring pain-evoked brain activity in infants. It outlines the procedure for positioning electrodes on the infant's head and applying pain stimuli to the infant's hand using a flat-tip probe. The video also shows the EEG recording process to identify brain activity in response to the stimuli.

EEG is a non-invasive technique that can measure brain activity. The neural activity generates electrical signals that are recorded by EEG electrodes placed on the scalp. When an individual is engaged in performing a cognitive task, brain activity changes and these changes can be recorded on the EEG graph. Therefore, it is a powerful tool for cognitive scientist aiming to better understand the neural correlates associated with different aspects of cognition, which will ultimately help them...
