Odor Sucrose Pairing

Odor-sucrose pairing is a classical conditioning paradigm that examines how an initially neutral odor acquires behavioral significance when associated with a sugar reward. During training, an odor serves as the conditioned stimulus and is presented in temporal association with sucrose, an unconditioned reward, so that repeated pairing can strengthen odor-guided responses. In neuroscience, researchers use this approach to measure associative learning, memory formation, reward processing, and olfactory behavioral plasticity. Comparing responses before and after conditioning can reveal how neural circuits encode sensory value and modify behavior based on experience.

Liquid Phase Reactor: Sucrose Inversion

Source: Kerry M. Dooley and Michael G. Benton, Department of Chemical Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Both batch and continuous flow reactors are used in catalytic reactions. Packed beds, which use solid catalysts and a continuous flow, are the most common configuration. In the absence of an extensive recycle stream, such packed bed reactors are typically modeled as "plug flow". The other most common continuous reactor is a stirred tank, which is assumed to be perfectly...

High-resolution Measurement of Odor-Driven Behavior in Drosophila Larvae

In this video article, we describe a new method allowing the construction of odorant gradients with stable and controllable geometries. We briefly illustrate how these gradients can be used to screen for olfactory defects (full and partial anosmia) and to study more subtle features of chemotaxis behavior.

A General Method for Evaluating Incubation of Sucrose Craving in Rats

Responding for food or drug-paired cues increases over the course of a period of abstinence and this may relate to an increased susceptibility to relapse behaviors. Here we detail a procedure for evaluating this "incubation of craving" in rats that have self-administered sucrose.

Here we describe how to optimize the acquired video image for an olfactory magnetic-tether (OMT) apparatus. We also describe two sample experimental protocols for studying visuo-olfactory fusion.

This manuscript describes a protocol to examine the olfactory system of rodents. The olfactory habituation/dishabituation test will allow investigators to determine whether a mouse habituates to a repeatedly presented odor and whether the mouse demonstrates dishabituation when presented a novel odor.
