Rgc Quantification

RGC quantification is the measurement of retinal ganglion cell number, density, distribution, or survival in retinal tissue, providing a way to assess visual pathway integrity in neuroscience. It typically combines selective molecular labeling, retinal flat-mount or section imaging, and systematic cell counting to distinguish RGCs from neighboring retinal cells; image-analysis workflows can then calculate cell density and regional loss. This approach supports studies of retinal development, optic nerve injury, glaucoma, and neuroprotective interventions by revealing changes in RGC survival and spatial organization. Reproducible quantification also enables comparison across experimental conditions and strengthens evaluation of therapeutic strategies.

Invertebrate Lifespan Quantification

2023

Many animals naturally stop growing upon reaching adulthood, after which they undergo aging or "senescence" until dying. The amount of time between an organism\'s birth and death is called its lifespan, which can be influenced by various biological and environmental factors. By exposing organisms to different growth conditions, scientists can better understand the factors affecting lifespan. Flies and worms are ideal organisms to perform such experiments, given their short generation time and...

Source: Lani-Louzada, R., et al. Full-Circle Cauterization of Limbal Vascular Plexus for Surgically Induced Glaucoma in Rodents. J. Vis. Exp. (2022).This video demonstrates the quantification of retinal ganglion cells from chemically fixed rat retinas subjected to full-circle cauterization of the limbal vascular plexus. The process includes permeabilization, antibody staining, and nuclear counterstaining, followed by visualization under an epifluorescence microscope to assess the impact of...

Here we describe a high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) assay to quantify the immunosuppressant tacrolimus in dried blood spots using a simple manual protein precipitation step and online column extraction.

Colorimetric Assay for Quantification of Lactate in Test Samples

2025

This video describes a colorimetric assay for lactate measurement in cell lysates by using the lactate dehydrogenase enzyme. This enzyme converts lactate into pyruvate, along with the conversion of NAD to NADH that reacts with tetrazolium dyes and gives a colored product that can be measured spectrophotometrically to quantitate the lactate.
