Transforaminal Approach

The transforaminal approach is a minimally invasive route to the spinal canal, intervertebral disc, or exiting nerve root through the neural foramen, the opening between adjacent vertebrae. Guided by fluoroscopy, computed tomography, or endoscopic visualization, clinicians advance a needle or instrument along a targeted foraminal trajectory to deliver medication, obtain diagnostic information, or treat compressed tissue while limiting disruption of surrounding structures. In neuroscience and spine care, this approach supports selective nerve-root blocks, epidural injections, and endoscopic procedures for conditions such as radicular pain and disc herniation, helping researchers and clinicians study and manage spinal nerve dysfunction with greater anatomical precision.
