Transgenic Zebrafish Lines

Transgenic zebrafish lines are genetically modified zebrafish strains that carry an introduced DNA sequence, providing a heritable system for studying gene function in vivo. Researchers typically inject DNA constructs into early embryos, where tissue-specific promoters can drive expression of fluorescent reporters, optogenetic tools, or other transgenes in selected cells. In neuroscience, these lines enable visualization and manipulation of neurons, glial cells, neural circuits, and developmental processes in living animals. Their optical transparency, rapid development, and accessible genetics support studies of brain formation, neural activity, behavior, disease mechanisms, and responses to potential therapies.
