Beta 1 Receptors

Beta 1 receptors are G protein-coupled adrenergic receptors that mediate many cardiovascular responses to epinephrine and norepinephrine, making them important targets in pharmacology. Predominantly located in cardiac tissue and juxtaglomerular cells of the kidney, they activate Gs proteins, stimulate adenylyl cyclase, increase cyclic AMP, and enhance protein kinase A signaling; this raises heart rate, contractility, and renin release. Understanding Beta 1 receptor signaling helps explain how sympathetic stimulation regulates cardiac output and blood pressure. Pharmacological agents such as selective Beta 1 blockers reduce these effects and are used to manage hypertension, angina, arrhythmias, and selected forms of heart failure.

Beta

2024

Beta is a crucial metric in finance used to assess an investment's risk and expected return relative to the overall market. It is calculated as the slope of the line in a scatterplot that compares the returns of an individual stock to the returns of the market benchmark, typically represented by a broad market index. Beta quantifies how much a stock's price moves in response to market movements, providing insight into its volatility and systematic risk. A beta of one indicates that the stock's...

The aim of this method is to determine the CR1 density in the erythrocytes of any subject by comparing with three subjects whose erythrocyte CR1 density is known. The method uses flow cytometry after immunostaining of the subjects' erythrocytes by an anti-CR1 monoclonal antibody coupled to an amplified system using phycoerythrin (PE).

Characterization of pH-Dependent Reversible Self-Assembly of Amyloid Beta 1-40-Coated Gold Colloids

Here, we present a systematic method describing the quasi-reversible self-assembly of the amyloid beta 1-40 (Aβ1-40)-coated 20 nm gold aggregates. The nano-size-dependent quasi-reversible networking between peptides was correlated with specific amino acids or sections of the Aβ1-40 monomer.

Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting: Neurokinin-1 Receptor Antagonists

2024

Neurokinin 1 (NK1) receptors are distributed across the GI tract, vagal afferents, and key CNS regions including the central vomiting center and chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ) Chemotherapy agents stimulate enterochromaffin cells in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract to release large amounts of substance P (SP). SP is a neuropeptide released by specific sensory nerves in response to many different stressors, including those in the GI mucosa affected by chemotherapy. SP binds and activates these...
