Hyponeophagia Test

The hyponeophagia test is a behavioral assay that measures an animal’s reluctance to consume an unfamiliar food, providing an index of food neophobia and anxiety-related behavior. During testing, an animal encounters a novel palatable food, and researchers quantify responses such as latency to approach or eat, food consumption, and changes following exposure or familiarization. In psychology and behavioral neuroscience, the test helps evaluate emotional regulation, assess the effects of stress or anxiolytic compounds, and compare anxiety-like behavior across experimental groups. Because feeding motivation can influence performance, results are interpreted alongside measures of appetite, locomotion, and general health.

Hyponeophagia: A Measure of Anxiety in the Mouse

Cited by 39 •

2011

Mice and rats, due to their innate cautiousness, are initially slow in consuming a novel food, particularly in a novel place. This hyponeophagia can readily be measured in the laboratory, even though laboratory animals are much less anxious than their wild...

Anxiety Testing

2023

Anxiety is a commonly observed behavioral disorder that stems from fear. It is described as increased restlessness, or unpleasant feelings of fear over anticipated events. Experimenters often use rodent models to better understand anxiety disorders in humans. They use different paradigms, like exposing rodents to bright spaces or loud sounds, which are known to induce fear. These tests combined with other interventions such as surgery or drug-administration may assist researchers in pinpointing...

Quantifying Fibrillar Collagen Organization with Curvelet Transform-Based Tools

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.

Microbial Control and Monitoring Strategies for Cleanroom Environments and Cellular Therapies

The protocol summarizes the best practices to minimize microbial bioburden in a cleanroom environment and includes strategies such as environmental monitoring, process monitoring, and product sterility testing. It is relevant for manufacturing and testing facilities that are required to meet current good tissue practice standards and current good manufacturing practice standards.

Subsurface Defect Localization by Structured Heating Using Laser Projected Photothermal Thermography

This method aims at locating vertical subsurface defects. Here, we couple a laser with a spatial light modulator and trigger its video input to heat a sample surface deterministically with two anti-phased modulated lines while acquiring highly resolved thermal images. The defect position is retrieved from evaluating thermal wave interference minima.
