Egfr Mutated Cells

EGFR-mutated cells are cells that carry alterations in the epidermal growth factor receptor gene, which can change cell signaling, growth, and survival. These mutations may activate the EGFR tyrosine kinase without normal ligand control, stimulating downstream pathways such as RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK and PI3K-AKT. In bioengineering, researchers use engineered cell models to study receptor signaling, evaluate mutation-specific inhibitors, and investigate how treatment resistance develops. These systems support drug screening, disease modeling, and the design of more precise diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancers driven by abnormal EGFR activity.

2026

Here we present a protocol to illustrate the isolation of rare cancer cells from a contrived sample containing whole blood and spiked in lung cancer cells. The protocol utilizes a semi-automated, label-free cell isolation platform. Enriched cells are subsequently analyzed for epidermal growth factor receptor mutations using droplet digital PCR.

2017

An in vitro method for establishing dual resistance to an EGFR-TKI and a MET-TKI in cancer cells is described. This method is useful for developing treatments for patients with EGFR-mutations, who exhibit disease progression despite EGFR-TKI treatment with MET-amplification. It can also be modified for inhibitors targeting other molecules.

We present a three-dimensional (3D) lung cancer model based on a biological collagen scaffold to study sensitivity towards non-small-cell-lung-cancer-(NSCLC)-targeted therapies. We demonstrate different read-out techniques to determine the proliferation index, apoptosis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) status. Collected data are integrated into an in silico model for prediction of drug sensitivity.
