Flow Enhancement

Flow enhancement is the deliberate improvement of fluid movement through a system, an important principle for controlling transport in bioengineering and other scientific applications. It works by altering pressure gradients, channel geometry, surface properties, or fluid viscosity to reduce resistance and increase velocity, throughput, or mixing. In bioengineering, these strategies support microfluidic devices, bioreactors, medical implants, and engineered tissues by promoting reliable delivery of nutrients, oxygen, cells, or therapeutic compounds. Effective flow enhancement can improve process efficiency, reduce energy requirements, and help researchers reproduce physiological transport conditions for studying biological systems and developing scalable technologies.

An efficient method to obtain highly purified viable meiotic fractions from mouse testis is described, which combines a refined cell dissociation protocol with fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS). This method takes advantage of differences in the DNA content and nuclear density of discrete meiotic fractions.

Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound imaging is a reliable in-vivo tool for quantifying spinal cord blood flow in an experimental rat spinal cord injury model. This paper contains a comprehensive protocol for application of this technique in association with a contusion model of thoracic spinal cord injury.

Self-Evaluation: Self-Enhancement and Self-Verification

Social psychologists have documented that feeling good about ourselves and maintaining positive self-esteem is a powerful motivator of human behavior (Tavris & Aronson, 2008). In the United States, members of the predominant culture typically think very highly of themselves and view themselves as good people who are above average on many desirable traits (Ehrlinger, Gilovich, & Ross, 2005). Often, our behavior, attitudes, and beliefs are affected when we experience a threat to our...

Bioavailability Enhancement: Drug Permeability Enhancement

After oral administration, poor permeability often limits the rate at which drugs are absorbed through the intestinal epithelium. Enhancing drug permeability is crucial for effective therapy, and several strategies have been developed to overcome this challenge. One effective strategy involves the use of lipid-based formulations. These formulations enhance dissolution and solubility, targeting physiological mechanisms to increase drug absorption. This includes stimulating bile salt secretion,...
