Gold Nanoparticle Synthesis

Gold nanoparticle synthesis is the controlled production of nanometer-scale gold particles with tunable sizes, shapes, and surface properties, making it important for bioengineering and nanomedicine. In common wet-chemical methods, gold ions in a precursor such as chloroauric acid are reduced to elemental gold, initiating nucleation and particle growth; stabilizing molecules then limit aggregation and influence the final structure. Researchers use these particles in biosensors, imaging, drug delivery, and diagnostic platforms because their optical and surface properties support sensitive detection and functional biomolecule attachment. Controlling reaction conditions such as reducing-agent concentration, temperature, and stabilizer composition helps produce nanoparticles suited to specific biological applications.

Here, we present a protocol for the in situ synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) within the interlayer space of layered titanate films without the aggregation of AuNPs. No spectral change was observed even after 4 months. The synthesized material has expected applications in catalysis, photo-catalysis, and the development of cost-effective plasmonic devices.

We discussed the synthesis of individual graphitic nanocups using a series of techniques including chemical vapor deposition, acid oxidation and probe-tip sonication. By citrate reduction of HAuCl4, the graphitic nanocups were effectively corked with gold nanoparticles due to the chemically reactive edges of the cups.
