Mechanical Blinking Simulation

Mechanical blinking simulation is a bioengineering method that models the timed opening and closing of an eyelid to study motion, contact, and protection of the eye. It represents blink mechanics by prescribing or calculating eyelid movement over time, while accounting for factors such as eyelid geometry, tissue deformation, surface interaction, and tear-film coverage. These simulations help researchers evaluate ocular-surface protection, investigate abnormal blinking, and design artificial eyelids or testing platforms for ophthalmic devices. By linking mechanical behavior with eye physiology, the approach supports safer device development and provides a controlled way to examine how changes in blink dynamics may affect comfort and tissue health.

The Attentional Blink

2023

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In order for recognition of a certain stimulus to take place, visual attention needs to be directed towards said stimulus. To the earliest parts of the visual system, objects are not objects, they are collections of visual features-lines, corners, changes in texture, color, and light. Attention is the resource that is necessary for later processing in order to recognize what a given bundle of features adds up to. This makes...

2017

The siphon breaking phenomenon was investigated experimentally and a theoretical model was proposed. A simulation program based on the theoretical model was developed and the results of the simulation program were compared with experimental results. It was concluded that the results of the simulation program matched the experimental results well.

We present an efficient method of studying lens accommodation by using a manual lens stretcher. The protocol mimics physiological accommodation by pulling the zonules connected around the lens capsule, thereby, stretching the lens.
