Mixed-matrix Membranes

Mixed-matrix membranes are composite separation materials that combine a continuous polymer or inorganic membrane phase with dispersed particles, offering a way to tune permeability and selectivity beyond those of a single material. Their performance depends on how molecules interact with the filler and matrix, including diffusion through the polymer, adsorption within porous particles, and transport across the particle–polymer interface. In chemistry, researchers use mixed-matrix membranes for gas separation, solvent purification, water treatment, and molecular sieving. Controlling filler dispersion, interfacial compatibility, and membrane structure can reduce defects and improve separation efficiency, supporting more energy-efficient chemical processing.

Mixed Strategies

2025

In game theory, mixed strategies involve players choosing their actions randomly from a set of available options. This approach contrasts with pure strategies, where players select a specific action with certainty. Mixed strategies become relevant in scenarios where there is no pure strategy equilibrium. A mixed-strategies Nash equilibrium occurs when players adopt strategies so that no one can benefit by unilaterally changing their own strategy, given the strategies of the others. In this...
