Zinc Battery

A zinc battery is an electrochemical energy-storage device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy through reactions involving zinc, making it an important subject in chemistry and battery research. During discharge, zinc is oxidized at the anode, releasing electrons that travel through an external circuit, while ions move through an electrolyte to support reduction at the cathode. Zinc batteries can use aqueous or nonaqueous electrolytes and different cathode materials, producing varied voltage, capacity, rechargeability, and safety profiles. Their low cost, material availability, and potential for improved energy storage support applications ranging from disposable cells to rechargeable systems for portable electronics and grid storage.

A battery is a galvanic cell that is used as a source of electrical power for specific applications. Modern batteries exist in a multitude of forms to accommodate various applications, from tiny button batteries such as those that power wristwatches to the very large batteries used to supply backup energy to municipal power grids. Some batteries are designed for single-use applications and cannot be recharged (primary cells), while others are based on conveniently reversible cell reactions that...
