Three-dimensional Virtual Lab

A three-dimensional virtual lab is an interactive, computer-based environment that simulates laboratory equipment, materials, and experiments, allowing users to practice investigation without a physical facility. It works by representing experimental systems and instruments as navigable 3D models, while software updates measurements, visual feedback, and system behavior as users adjust parameters or perform procedures. In engineering education and research, these labs support hands-on learning, design testing, troubleshooting, and repeatable experimentation under controlled conditions. They can improve access to practical training, reduce material and equipment costs, and provide a safe setting for studying complex systems before building or testing physical prototypes.

Classical fear conditioning paradigm was adapted for human participants in a fully immersive virtual reality setting. Using a discrimination paradigm, conditioned fear, cue and context memory retention, and extinction was measured with skin conductance response to dynamic virtual snakes and spiders (the conditioned stimuli) in two distinct virtual contexts.

Measurement Accuracy The ability to repeat an experiment and get the same results, or reproducibility, is essential in scientific research. However, it’s impossible to repeat an experiment if you don’t know how you did it. Thus, scientists keep detailed records of their experiments in lab notebooks. These records include important information like the amount of each material used and descriptions of each step of the procedure. Equipment, like balances and volumetric or graduated glassware, is...
