Crispr Mutagenesis

CRISPR mutagenesis is a genome-editing approach that uses CRISPR-associated proteins to introduce targeted changes in DNA, making it a powerful tool for studying gene function and genetic regulation. A guide RNA directs a nuclease such as Cas9 to a complementary DNA sequence, where the nuclease creates a site-specific double-strand break; cellular repair through error-prone nonhomologous end joining or template-guided homology-directed repair can then generate mutations or precise sequence changes. In genetics, CRISPR mutagenesis supports gene knockouts, variant analysis, functional screens, and disease modeling, helping researchers connect DNA sequence with biological traits.

Genome editing technologies allow scientists to modify an organism’s DNA via the addition, removal, or rearrangement of genetic material at specific genomic locations. These types of techniques could potentially be used to cure genetic disorders such as hemophilia and sickle cell anemia. One popular and widely used DNA-editing research tool that could lead to safe and effective cures for genetic disorders is the CRISPR-Cas9 system. CRISPR-Cas9 stands for Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short...
