Coverslip Lift Technique

The Coverslip Lift Technique is a microscopy preparation method that transfers adherent cells, microorganisms, or infected specimens from a culture surface for examination while preserving their spatial arrangement. In practice, a coverslip is placed over the specimen to promote adhesion, then gently lifted and processed through fixation, staining, and mounting for imaging. In immunology and infection research, this approach supports visualization of host-pathogen interactions, immune-cell morphology, cellular damage, and intracellular organisms. By producing intact, high-contrast preparations, the technique enables qualitative and quantitative microscopy and can help assess infection patterns, immune responses, and treatment effects.

Lift is a fundamental aerodynamic force that acts perpendicular to the direction of airflow. It plays a central role in achieving and sustaining flight and in stabilizing various vehicles. Lift primarily originates from pressure differences created across surfaces, such as an airfoil. A lower pressure region forms above the wing, while a higher pressure region forms below it, generating an upward force. This differential results from the shape and orientation of the airfoil, enabling the wing...

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...
