Influenza Vaccine Quantification

Influenza vaccine quantification is the measurement of vaccine antigen content, especially hemagglutinin (HA), to verify that each strain is present at the intended dose. In immunochemical assays such as single radial immunodiffusion, disrupted virions or purified HA diffuse through an antibody-containing gel, forming precipitation zones whose sizes are compared with reference standards to calculate antigen concentration. This analysis supports manufacturing quality control, batch release, dose consistency, and evaluation of seasonal formulations, while helping researchers compare production processes and assess whether vaccines meet potency specifications needed for consistent immune protection.

Generating Recombinant Live-Attenuated Influenza Viruses for Vaccines

2025

The video showcases a method to create cold-adapted recombinant influenza viruses. It involves transfecting human cells with bi-directional plasmids, followed by incubation at lower temperature incubation to yield viruses suitable for vaccine production, characterized by reduced replication in warmer conditions.

Intranasal Administration of Recombinant Influenza Vaccines in Chimeric Mouse Models to Study Mucosal Immunity

A simple slot blot method was developed for the quantification of influenza viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase using universal antibodies targeting their most conserved sequences identified through bioinformatics analyses. This innovative approach may provide a useful alternative to quantitative determination of all viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.

Vaccinations

Overview Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material from pathogens to confer immunity against a specific microorganism. Vaccination primes the immune system to recognize and mount an immune response faster and more effectively if the real pathogen is encountered. Vaccinations are one of the most efficient ways to protect both individual humans and the general public from disease. A growing anti-vaccination skepticism risks the successes of vaccination programs that helped reduce...
