Arterial Stiffness Evaluation

Arterial stiffness evaluation is the assessment of how well arteries expand and recoil with each heartbeat, providing an important indicator of vascular health beyond blood pressure alone. As arterial walls lose elasticity, pressure waves travel more rapidly through the arterial tree; clinicians and researchers can estimate this change using measures such as pulse wave velocity, arterial pressure waveforms, and related indices of vascular compliance. The evaluation supports cardiovascular risk assessment in conditions including hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis, while also helping researchers study vascular aging and monitor responses to lifestyle or pharmacological interventions.
