Tocolytic Use

Tocolytic use refers to the administration of medications that temporarily suppress uterine contractions to delay preterm birth, making it an important strategy in obstetric medicine. These drugs act through different pathways, including blocking oxytocin receptors, reducing calcium entry into uterine smooth-muscle cells, or decreasing prostaglandin production, thereby limiting myometrial contraction. A short delay may allow time for antenatal corticosteroids to mature the fetal lungs, magnesium sulfate for fetal neuroprotection when indicated, or transfer to a facility with specialized neonatal care. Because benefits and maternal or fetal risks vary by drug and clinical condition, treatment requires careful assessment and monitoring.

Three-dimensional co-culture spheroid angiogenesis assay system is designed to mimic the physiologic angiogenesis. Co-culture spheroids are formed by two human vascular cell precursors, ECFCs and MSCs, and embedded in collagen gel. The new system is effective for evaluating angiogenic modulators, and provides more relevant information to the in vivo study.
