Migratory Polarity

Migratory polarity is the directional organization that enables a moving cell, including a developing neuron, to distinguish its front from its rear and migrate efficiently. In neuronal migration, extracellular guidance cues regulate actin and microtubule remodeling, positioning the centrosome and Golgi apparatus ahead of the nucleus while the leading process extends toward the direction of movement. This coordinated polarity supports the movement of neurons to their proper locations during nervous system development. Studying migratory polarity helps explain cortical organization, axon and dendrite development, and how disrupted cell positioning can contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders.

2025

In vivo imaging of the joints is a valuable technique for uncovering the migratory behavior of leukocytes and molecular dynamics within the inflamed joints. Here, we present a detailed protocol for in vivo imaging of the joints using a murine model of type II collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).

Group Polarization

2020

Group polarization is the strengthening of an original group attitude following the discussion of views within a group (Teger & Pruitt, 1967). That is, if a group initially favors a viewpoint, after discussion the group consensus is likely a stronger endorsement of the viewpoint. Conversely, if the group was initially opposed to a viewpoint, group discussion would likely lead to stronger opposition. The phenomenon of group polarization explains many actions taken by groups that would not...

Wound Assay to Evaluate the Migratory Capacity of Murine Myoblasts in Co-Culture

Dipole Moment of a Molecule Polar covalent bonds connect two atoms with differing electronegativities, leaving one atom with a partial positive charge (δ+) and the other atom with a partial negative charge (δ–), as the electrons are pulled toward the more electronegative atom. This separation of charge gives rise to a bond dipole moment. The magnitude of a bond dipole moment is represented by the Greek letter mu (µ) and is given by the formula shown here, where Q is the magnitude of the...
