Mouse Brain Injection

Mouse brain injection is a neuroscience technique for delivering a defined substance directly into a selected region of the mouse brain, enabling controlled study of neural structure and function. In a typical stereotaxic procedure, the animal’s head is stabilized, an injection needle is guided to target coordinates, and a measured volume of drug, tracer, viral vector, or cell suspension is deposited through the skull; diffusion and local biological responses then depend on the material and injection site. This approach supports circuit mapping, gene manipulation, disease modeling, and evaluation of therapeutic strategies, while careful targeting and tissue handling improve experimental reproducibility.

Brain metastasis has become an urgent unmet medical need as its incidence has increased while therapeutic options have remained palliative. Creating experimental animal models of brain metastasis via intracarotid arterial injection of cancer cells facilitates mechanistic studies of the disease biology and evaluation of novel intervention regimens.

Injectable Mesh Electronics for Stable Single-Neuron Recordings in a Mouse Brain

2025

The video demonstrates the injection of mesh electronics probes into a mouse brain for stable long-term recordings at a single-neuron level. An anesthetized mouse with an exposed skull is secured on a stereotaxic frame, and the probe's mesh device region is injected into the brain through drilled holes. The probe's input-output pads are connected to a circuit, and recordings are obtained using a data acquisition system.

An Intracerebroventricular Injection to Analyze Murine Cytomegalovirus Distribution in a Neonatal Mouse Brain

This video demonstrates the intracerebroventricular injection process for studying murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) distribution in the neonatal mouse brain. MCMV, engineered to express an enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) for visibility, is injected into the lateral ventricle of a mouse pup's brain. The injected virus circulates through the cerebrospinal fluid, infecting cells in the periventricular region, including the marginal zone, choroid plexus, and subventricular zone.

After neural tube formation, the neuroepithelium constricts and folds while the tube fills with embryonic cerebrospinal fluid (eCSF) to form the embryonic brain ventricles. We developed this ventricle injection technique to better visualize the fluid filled space in contrast to the neuroepithelial shape in a live embryo.
