Pressure Time Analysis

Pressure time analysis is a method for examining how biological pressure changes over time, providing insight into dynamic nervous-system function and disease. In neuroscience, it commonly involves recording intracranial pressure signals and analyzing their waveforms, peaks, trends, and relationships with physiological events such as the cardiac cycle. These measurements can help assess intracranial compliance, identify abnormal pressure patterns, and support monitoring in conditions including traumatic brain injury and hydrocephalus. By converting continuous pressure recordings into interpretable temporal features, pressure time analysis strengthens clinical decision-making and research on cerebrovascular regulation, brain mechanics, and neurological deterioration.

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

The ValsalvaAnalyzer software includes functions to analyze continuous beat-to-beat electrocardiogram and blood pressure (BP) measurements recorded during the Valsalva maneuver (VM). The computed clinical biomarkers and estimated model outputs provide insight into sympathetic and parasympathetic regulation of heart rate and BP during the VM.

A Microfluidic Device for Real-Time Imaging and Pressure Tracking During Biofilm Formation

Source: Kurz, D. L., et al. Microfluidic Platform to Study Bioclogging in Porous Media. J. Vis. Exp. (2022)The video demonstrates the use of a microfluidic device to study biofilm formation. A bacterial suspension is introduced into the microchannel, followed by incubation to allow biofilm development. Flow is then resumed, and pressure monitoring along with imaging is used to detect biofilm formation and pore blockage over time.
