Template Model Construction

Template model construction is the process of creating a standardized anatomical or functional reference model from neuroscience data, enabling researchers to compare brain structures and measurements across individuals or experiments. It typically involves acquiring representative imaging or anatomical datasets, aligning them to a common coordinate system through spatial registration, and combining the transformed data into a template that preserves shared features while reducing individual variation. These models support brain mapping, atlas development, image analysis, and interpretation of changes associated with development, disease, or experimental treatment. Reliable templates also improve reproducibility by providing a consistent framework for integrating observations across laboratories, subjects, and research methods.

DNA as a Genetic Template

2020

Two structural features of the DNA molecule provide a basis for the mechanisms of heredity: the four nucleotide bases and its double-stranded nature. The Watson-Crick model of double-helical DNA structure, proposed in 1952, drew heavily upon the X-ray crystallography work of researchers Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Watson, Crick, and Wilkins jointly received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in 1962. Franklin was, controversially, excluded from the prize for...

This manuscript describes a murine calvarial osteolysis model by exposure to CoCrMo particles, which constitutes an ideal animal model for assessing the interactions between wear particles and various cells in aseptic loosening.

Construction of a Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface in a Rat Model of Nerve Injury

Source: Svientek, S. R., et al. Fabrication of the Composite Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (C-RPNI) in the Adult Rat. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates the surgical construction of a composite regenerative peripheral nerve interface (C-RPNI) in a rat model of peripheral nerve injury. The procedure involves attaching a transected peroneal nerve to a muscle graft and overlaying it with a dermal skin graft to promote nerve regeneration. Over time, motor and sensory neurons...
