Wire Mesh Tunnel

A wire mesh tunnel is a laboratory apparatus that provides a confined, structured passage for observing animal behavior in neuroscience research. Its mesh walls create a partially enclosed environment that permits airflow, visual monitoring, and sensory contact while researchers record movement through or interaction with the tunnel under controlled conditions. Depending on the experimental design, measurements can include locomotion, exploration, avoidance, approach behavior, and responses to nearby animals or stimuli. By standardizing the testing environment, wire mesh tunnels can support studies of anxiety-related behavior, sensory processing, social interaction, and neural responses to environmental cues.

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Hot-wire anemometers have a very short time-response, which makes them ideal to measure rapidly fluctuating phenomena such as turbulent flows. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the use of hot-wire anemometry.

Mesh Analysis

Mesh analysis is a valuable method for simplifying circuit analysis using mesh currents as key circuit variables. Unlike nodal analysis, which focuses on determining unknown voltages, mesh analysis applies Kirchhoff's voltage law (KVL) to find unknown currents within a circuit. This method is particularly convenient in reducing the number of simultaneous equations that need to be solved. A fundamental concept in mesh analysis is the definition of meshes and mesh currents. A mesh is a closed...

Injectable Mesh Electronics for Stable Single-Neuron Recordings in a Mouse Brain

2025

The video demonstrates the injection of mesh electronics probes into a mouse brain for stable long-term recordings at a single-neuron level. An anesthetized mouse with an exposed skull is secured on a stereotaxic frame, and the probe's mesh device region is injected into the brain through drilled holes. The probe's input-output pads are connected to a circuit, and recordings are obtained using a data acquisition system.

Turbulence Sphere Method: Evaluating Wind Tunnel Flow Quality

Source: Jose Roberto Moreto and Xiaofeng Liu, Department of Aerospace Engineering, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA Wind tunnel tests are useful in the design of vehicles and structures that are subjected to airflow during their use. Wind tunnel data are generated by applying a controlled air flow to a model of the object being studied. The test model usually has a similar geometry but is a smaller scale compared to the full-sized object. To ensure accurate and useful data is collected...
