Sleep Eating

Sleep eating is a parasomnia in which a person partially awakens during sleep and consumes food with limited awareness or later memory, making it important in clinical psychology and sleep medicine. Episodes arise from incomplete arousal from non-rapid eye movement sleep, leaving eating behavior active while conscious judgment and memory formation remain reduced; some individuals may prepare unusual or unsafe foods. Recognizing sleep eating helps clinicians distinguish it from night eating syndrome, assess risks such as injury or unwanted ingestion, and guide evaluation of sleep patterns, medications, stress, and coexisting sleep disorders. Improved diagnosis can support safer sleep environments and individualized treatment.

To understand a link between the immune response and behavior, we describe a method to measure locomotor behavior in Drosophila during bacterial infection as well as the ability of flies to mount an immune response by monitoring survival, bacterial load, and real-time activity of a key regulator of innate immunity, NFκB.
