Smoking Lung Cancer

Smoking lung cancer is lung cancer associated with exposure to tobacco smoke, a major preventable cause of cancer worldwide. Chemicals in smoke can damage DNA in lung cells, and repeated exposure may accumulate mutations that disrupt normal growth and allow tumors to develop. Statistical analysis measures incidence, mortality, survival, and risk across populations, helping researchers identify trends and disparities linked to smoking behavior, age, or other exposures. These data support public health policies, tobacco-control programs, risk communication, and evaluation of prevention and screening strategies while clarifying the broader impact of smoking on cancer burden.

Source: Li, T., et al. Studying Effects of Cigarette Smoke on Pseudomonas Infection in Lung Epithelial Cells. J. Vis. Exp. (2020).This video demonstrates how cigarette smoke extract weakens antimicrobial defense in lung epithelial cells by reducing AMP production, leading to increased bacterial invasion. The procedure measures intracellular bacterial load to assess the impact of smoke exposure on host-pathogen interactions.
