In the United States, there are various healthcare agencies—some of which are religious and government agencies.

A religious agency, or parish nursing, is a specialty nursing practice that stresses holistic care, health promotion, disease prevention, and healing within a faith community.

A nurse's role in such an agency includes providing health education, finding resources, and making referrals to benefit vulnerable groups such as older adults, children, and single parents.

Government agencies funded by national, state, and local taxes include the Veterans Administration hospitals, military hospitals, and Public Health Service.

The VA and military hospitals provide healthcare services to veterans and military personnel and their close relatives.

Next, the PHS funds health centers and agencies that provide healthcare services. For example, the CDC and the FDA.

They also supply healthcare professionals to give care for imprisoned people. Nurses offer direct patient care, provide information, and advocate for patients in this setting.
