This article demonstrates a protocol for inducing local gamma oscillations in the CA1 region of mouse hippocampal brain slices using tetanic stimulation. The method enables researchers to study the mechanisms underlying neuronal network activity, particularly the balance of excitatory and inhibitory inputs that generate rhythmic brain waves important for cognitive functions such as attention and memory.
Inducing local CA1 gamma oscillations in hippocampal brain slices enables precise interrogation of neuronal network synchronization, a key factor in understanding cognitive circuit function. This method provides a controlled platform for mechanistic de-risking of synaptic integration and network-level hypotheses in early neuroscience discovery. Its reproducibility and quantitative outputs support predictive confidence at critical inflection points in neuropharma R&D pipelines.
