This article describes a method for transferring mitochondria from donor cells to modified glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs). The process involves the use of fluorescent labeling to visualize the successful transfer and internalization of mitochondria.
Mitochondrial transfer techniques enable mechanistic interrogation of cancer stem cell metabolism, supporting target validation in oncology drug discovery. By demonstrating functional mitochondrial uptake in glioblastoma stem cells, this method provides a disease-relevant system for assessing metabolic dependencies and de-risking therapeutic hypotheses. It offers a scalable approach to evaluate mitochondrial modulation as a strategy to impair tumor-initiating cell function.
The method integrates into early discovery workflows by enabling functional validation of mitochondrial targets in cancer stem cells prior to lead identification.
