3d Model Construction

3D model construction is the process of building a digital or physical representation of an object, organism, or environment, allowing researchers to examine form, movement, and interactions in controlled conditions. Digital models are created by converting measurements, images, or spatial scans into geometric meshes, then adding surface features, joints, or motion rules that determine how the model behaves. In behavioral research, these models can represent animals, people, habitats, or social settings for testing responses to shape, motion, distance, and environmental change. By separating specific variables and repeating trials, 3D models support controlled experiments, computational simulations, visualization, and more precise analysis of behavior.

We demonstrate the use of patterned aerosol adhesives to construct 3D paper microfluidic devices. This method of adhesive application forms semi-permanent bonds between layers, enabling single-use devices to be non-destructively disassembled after use and to ease folding complex nonplanar structures.
