Home-based Sensor Deployment

Home-based sensor deployment is the use of sensors in residential settings to measure behavior and surrounding conditions where people live, providing data that may better reflect everyday activity than laboratory observation. Sensors can passively capture signals such as movement, location, environmental changes, or device interactions, then transmit time-stamped measurements for behavioral analysis. In behavioral research, this approach supports longitudinal and naturalistic studies of routines, sleep, social interaction, and responses to changing contexts. By reducing reliance on memory and minimizing disruption, home-based monitoring can reveal patterns across daily life while requiring careful attention to privacy, participant adherence, data quality, and ethical study design.

Clark Y-14 Wing Performance: Deployment of High-lift Devices (Flaps and Slats)

2023

Source: David Guo, College of Engineering, Technology, and Aeronautics (CETA), Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU), Manchester, New Hampshire A wing is the major lift-generating apparatus in an airplane. Wing performance can be further enhanced by deploying high-lift devices, such as flaps (at the trailing edge) and slats (at the leading edge) during takeoff or landing. In this experiment, a wind tunnel is utilized to generate certain airspeeds, and a Clark Y-14 wing with a flap and slat...

Glovebox and Impurity Sensors

2023

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University The glovebox provides a straightforward means to handle air- and moisture-sensitive solids and liquids. The glovebox is what it sounds like: a box with gloves attached to one or more sides, which allows the user to perform manipulations within the glovebox under an inert atmosphere. For manipulations under inert atmospheres, chemists can choose between Schlenk or high-vacuum techniques and a glovebox. Schlenk and...
