Straw Racks

Straw racks are feeding or enrichment structures that hold loose straw for animals, helping provide access to roughage while supporting species-typical behavior. By allowing animals to pull, manipulate, and consume straw through a rack rather than from an unrestricted pile, they can influence feeding time, foraging activity, and interactions with the environment. In behavioral research and livestock management, straw racks are used to provide environmental enrichment, reduce inactivity, and assess how animals respond to different housing conditions or resource-access designs. Their placement, accessibility, and construction can therefore affect welfare-related behaviors, competition, and the expression of natural feeding patterns.

2026

This protocol describes a cost-effective method to accelerate plasmid DNA extraction. By utilizing custom 3D-printed racks compatible with standard swinging-bucket plate rotors, researchers can process up to 48 spin columns with caps or up to 116 spin columns without caps simultaneously, significantly reducing handling time compared to manual microcentrifuge methods.

Rabbit Embryo Vitrification Using Cryogenic Straw: An Ultra-Rapid Cooling Technique to Preserve Rabbit Embryos for Long-term Storage

2025

In this video, we describe the procedure for vitrification of harvested rabbit embryos at desired development stage using ethylene glycol and dimethyl sulfoxide as cryoprotectants and cryogenic straw as the carrier system. The vitrified embryos have high survival rate and can be stored for an extended period until use.

Here, we present an optimized methodology for producing mycelium-based composites (MBCs) from petrochemicals and polluting materials for thermal insulation applications. To become carbon-neutral and sustainable, biobased and compostable materials like mycelium bio-composite could be the solution. To determine if they meet the construction standards, several experiments were conducted.
