Internet Addiction Test

The Internet Addiction Test (IAT) is a standardized self-report measure of problematic internet use, helping researchers and clinicians assess behaviors that may interfere with daily life. Respondents rate 20 items on a five-point scale covering preoccupation, impaired control, withdrawal-like experiences, time management, and consequences in work, study, or relationships; summed scores indicate the severity of reported problems rather than establishing a diagnosis. In behavioral research, the IAT supports studies of internet-use patterns, psychological correlates, and risk factors, while clinical settings may use it to guide screening, conversation, and monitoring of behavioral change.

Drug Abuse and Addiction: Pharmacological Phenomena

2024

Drug dependence, abuse, and addiction are complex phenomena that can precipitate various abnormal states. Physical dependence refers to a state of pharmacological adaptation to a drug. This adaptation often results in tolerance—a reduced response to the drug after repeated administrations. When the drug use is abruptly stopped, withdrawal symptoms occur due to the body's need to readjust from the pharmacologically induced imbalance. However, tolerance and withdrawal symptoms do not necessarily...
